An introduction by Violet Burt of the "Quo Vadis" nursery
When my 'Honorary Aunt Otrantia' said "I think I'd better do a website for the textiles", I was frankly sceptical. A life-long Luddite, she doesn't consider a garden spade any good if it was made less than 50 years ago, and is a well-known hater of computers. However, she has a ferocious practical intelligence and a great deal of determination. My offers of help were politely declined, and with rather less in the way of sotto voce bad language than I'd feared, here is the result. The potted biography is based on an essay about Vesta I wrote in the Sixth Form, but she largely re-wrote it, keeping the third person format. All the photos were taken by her, on a camera which cost less than £50, so the quality is variable, especially as she refuses to use the flash. I offered to take a portrait photo, but her reply was "They don't want mu ugly old mug all over it". If the image conjured up is rather like Miss Marple, that is not too inaccurate - but definitely the Margaret Rutherford version rather than the Joan Hicks avatar. Throughout the website, all names, dates and locations have been altered to protect both the innocent and the guilty
