Plaid and plain, hand-sewn cushions
Cushions are made from various upcycled textiles - vintage plaid 'picnic blankets' and rugs; checked or embroidered tablecloths, and lengths of vintage fabric. Linen and cotton cushions are shown on the 'Linens' page - click here to go there! Closures are with a 'envelope' - like overlap of fabric, secured with a vintage button. The standard size is 16", but larger 18" and smaller 14" ones are also made where this makes the best use of the fabric.
Cushions are either all made from the same fabric, are 'harlequin', using several toning fabrics, applique, usually with a contrasting or toning heart, or with embroidered text.
Embroidery is also used to enhance cushions and vintage labels may add a unique touch.
As all fabrics are washed before making up, all the cushion covers are washable. Cottons will have been washed on a hot wash. Woollen cushions can be washed in the machine on the gentle wool cycle, using a suitable delicate fabrics detergent. HOWEVER I do strongly recommend inspecting the buttons carefully beforehand in both cases, and if in doubt, remove them and replace after washing. Some vintage buttons may be damaged by washing, and it is always better to be safe than sorry.

In Jane's lovely shop at Rye, cushions are usually filled with a hypo-allergenic pad. Of course, the pads are all new, not vintage!
